Most consumers always ask for a very explicit manual when buying a ceiling light, because they are not good handymen and even less electricians. Some even prefer to pay for the services of a professional so as not to take risks. However, today thanks to the Internet, we can very well save ourselves this superfluous expense.
The advantage of having a model with lighting at home
The advantage of having aceiling fanwith light in your home lies in its dual function as a ventilation and lighting device at the same time. It can very well occupy the place of general lighting in a room since it will be located right in the center. Next door you will save yourself from getting any model to keep the indoor temperature comfortable in summer. Moreover, with the two-in-one or reversible versions, that is to say that act as a light heating in winter, it is even better.
This system then gives rise to more or less palpable savings during the year. Some experience it right out of the box. Be aware, however, that it must be the right size and number of blades to claim this title. Models with blades with a diameter of 80 cm are suitable for spaces of about 10 m2. Count 20 to 40 cm more for areas of 20 m2and so on. If you want an even more economical specimen, do not hesitate to opt for those with several speeds.
In parallel, we are also spoiled aesthetics and decoration. Only, it takes a little subtlety to succeed in establishing it properly in a given landscape.
Integrate this lighting system into your décor
First of all, know that the device comes in various styles, the best known of which are design, colonial and antique. The material of manufacture also makes all the difference compared to the existing decoration. A wooden version offers a cocooning effect, a warm, friendly atmosphere, while the metal corresponds to a more modern and industrial theme. The shape of lamps, spotlights or globes also play a major role in the look of the equipment.
If some are wondering, should we put another source of light? Well, the answer is yes. The brighter a room is, the larger it seems. And today, the trend is to distinguish any object that is considered valuable or that can embellish the living room, kitchen, dining room or library under a light beam.
Now the question is when we do too much or not enough. Always give convenience the benefit of the doubt. If you need clarity to read, tidy, put on lighting, if not, if not for decorative purposes, it is totally useless. And preferably, choose a cool tone to see better, while a warm tone helps to relax more.
The ceiling lamp finds its place in the middle of a room welcoming guests or a bedroom. On the other hand, we strongly advise against installing it just above an island in the kitchen. The ceiling height could be missing and the movement of the blades could disturb the guests, or even be dangerous if they are too close. If you are not a fan of the idea of putting lamps everywhere, opt for a dimmer. Thus, you switch from night light mode to reading mode in a snap of your fingers. All you have to do is find the best location for your fan and that’s it.
Get to work
Before touching anything, turn off the electricity meter otherwise you risk electrocuting yourself. If there is already a point to connect the fan, it will take you 15 minutes at most. However, if you do not yet have a power supply in the middle of your ceiling, you will have to create one, which takes a lot of time. Indeed, it will be necessary to arrange along the wall and ceiling the wires used to connect the switch to the machine and conceal all this using wire covers. If a remote control comes with your fan, however, you can skip this step.
Another safety issue is also that you check that your ceiling can properly support the weight of the ceiling light, otherwise everything may collapse. So after inserting the hooks intended to suspend the device on either side of the connection corresponding to the wiring box, disassemble the device.
Strip each wire of the electrical connection that will be in contact with that of the fan of about 2 to 3 cm, do the same for the latter. Follow the color code indicated in the leaflet and tie each strand with the one dedicated to it by twisting them together. Once it’s done, you put the nuts through it and tighten, then assemble the wiring box, and test the fan. If all goes well, finish editing. Otherwise, double-check all your connections, always turning off the electricity.
Keep your ceiling light clean, operational and safe
Too much dust impairs the performance of the device. So don’t wait until yours is covered to clean it. A feather duster or vacuum cleaner every week is enough to keep it like new. Once your fan is turned off and cooled, grab a chair or stepladder.
If both do not work, attack the blades, the case, the lamps and not the bulbs with a cloth dipped in water with a little dishwashing liquid if necessary and well wrung out. Be careful that it does not drip. It’s the same for rinsing. Finish with careful drying of all parts with a dry, clean cloth.
For hard-to-reach areas, for example, use an old pin or a brush with soft bristles. A fan washed with antistatic spray or mild cleaning product accumulates dust and dirt less quickly. So don’t lose sight of that.
Also take advantage of this strand of toilet to tighten the nuts and screws that in the long run tend to relax. Also control the balance of the blades, i.e. the height and angle of inclination of each one relative to the others.
